Light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), is a cutting-edge technology that uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin and tissues, stimulating cellular activity and promoting healing and wellness. This non-invasive, painless therapy enhances microcirculation, reduces inflammation, and increases cellular energy (ATP) production, offering numerous health benefits.
The following terms are often used interchangeably to describe therapeutic light therapy:
These terms all refer to the use of low-intensity light, typically visible light (including red, green, blue and yellow) or near-infrared light, to promote healing, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation. The therapy is called “low-level” or “low-power” because the light intensity is carefully optimized to ensure it is not too high or too low. This ensures the therapy is safe and effective without heating the tissue or causing any harm. Using too much light can reduce the therapy’s effectiveness or even have adverse effects, while using too little light can result in insufficient therapeutic outcomes.
Conventional white light, like the light from your home lamps, is a mixture of all colors and is both incoherent and multidirectional, spreading in many directions.
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It emits light that is incoherent and multidirectional because the light waves produced are out of phase with each other and dispersed in many directions.
LASER stands for Light Amplification of Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser light is different from normal light because it is monochromatic (precise color), coherent (arranged photon stream), and directional (shining in a single direction).
At our clinic, we utilize German-made light therapy devices from Weber Medical that employ various laser and LED light wavelengths to provide effective and versatile light therapy treatments. The Weber Infrared Helmet and Weber EndoLight Band are designed to deliver targeted light therapy, harnessing the power of different light spectrums to address a wide range of health conditions and wellness goals.
Support Your Brain in Just 30 Minutes a Day
A light therapy helmet for Transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPBM). Uses over 300 infrared LEDs to penetrate the skull and target deep into brain tissues, promoting neuroprotection, cognitive enhancement, and mental health.
Your Personal, Portable Laser Therapy Companion
A light therapy watch to provide Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). Employs 7 lasers and 1 LED, including red, blue, green, yellow, and infrared wavelengths, to target different therapeutic needs such as pain relief, energy, and overall wellness.
The electromagnetic spectrum includes all types of light, such as visible light (what we can see with the naked eye), ultraviolet (UV), infrared, far-infrared, and microwave. Visible light and infrared light are a small part of this spectrum and are used in various therapeutic applications depending on the desired depth of light penetration and the targeted effects on tissues.

Infrared light is invisible to the naked eye and has the unique ability to penetrate deep into tissues, including muscles, nerves, and even bones. It is particularly effective for:
Red light is known for its ability to penetrate the skin to a depth of about 8-10 mm. Of the all the wavelengths in the visible light spectrum, it’s able to penetrate the deepest, making it effective for:
Yellow light therapy benefits include:
Green light is effective for superficial treatments, such as:
Blue light is well-known for its antimicrobial properties and is used for:
By utilizing both the infrared and visible light spectrum, medical light therapy devices can offer a comprehensive range of therapeutic benefits. Each wavelength targets different tissues and cellular processes, allowing for customized treatments that can address a wide variety of health conditions and wellness goals. The combination of these wavelengths in devices like the Weber Infrared Helmet and EndoLight Band ensures that users receive the maximum benefit from their light therapy sessions.
