Provider Spotlight: Meet Ashley Moore, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

We are thrilled to welcome Ashley Moore, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, to the MyHealth1st team! Ashley will begin seeing patients in August, and we couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to her.

Ashley brings more than seven years of nursing experience caring for patients in emergency medicine, intensive care, and neurology. Before becoming a nurse, she worked as a medical scribe, where she developed a deep appreciation for clinical reasoning by observing experienced providers think through complex cases in real time. That early experience sparked a passion for medicine that ultimately led her to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed by her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Baylor University.

While Ashley loved the fast pace and teamwork of emergency medicine, she found herself asking a question that many healthcare providers eventually face: What if we could help patients before they became emergency patients?

That question, combined with her own personal health journey, led her to explore integrative and functional medicine. During nurse practitioner school, Ashley completed a clinical rotation in a functional medicine practice and immediately knew she had found the type of medicine she wanted to practice. She was inspired by the time providers spent listening to patients, searching for root causes, and partnering with individuals to create personalized plans for long-term wellness.

As a Nurse Practitioner at MyHealth1st, Ashley is excited to continue expanding her knowledge of functional medicine, hormone health, and personalized, root-cause care while building meaningful relationships with patients. She joins our Winston-Salem practice with a genuine love of learning, a passion for understanding complex health conditions, and a commitment to helping every patient achieve lasting wellness.

We asked Ashley a few fun questions so you can get to know her a little better before your first visit!

Q&A with Ashley

What inspired you to become a Nurse Practitioner?

“I was inspired to become a nurse practitioner while working at the bedside of a busy downtown Emergency Department. I realized I wanted to do more than provide episodic care. I wanted to be on the proactive side of medicine by identifying the root cause of an illness or set of symptoms, and create treatment plans to provide the best care for my patients!”

What drew you to integrative and functional medicine?

“I was drawn to integrative and functional medicine after experiencing my own health challenges more than 15 years ago. After seeing numerous providers in traditional medicine, I was encouraged to seek care from an integrative medicine provider. That decision changed everything for me.

During nurse practitioner school, I completed a clinical rotation in a functional medicine clinic and fell in love with this approach to patient care. Having personally experienced the impact of functional medicine, I knew I wanted to help others the way it had helped me.”

What excites you most about joining MyHealth1st?

“I am excited to immerse myself in functional medicine and hormone health. I look forward to working in a small, patient-centered practice, developing new procedural skills, and spending meaningful time with patients to optimize their health and well-being. ”

Do you have a favorite way to start or end your day?

“I love starting my day with coffee and a walk through my garden. I enjoy ending my day with a good book!”

What do you like to do for fun?

“I love gardening, visiting the local farmers market, working on home improvement projects, thrift shopping, and spending time with family (especially my nieces!). I also love to relax by the pool or at home with my three kitties.”

What’s a book, podcast, or movie you’ve loved recently?

  • Book: Estrogen Matters by Avrum Bluming & Carol Tavris, The Dream Harbor series by Laurie Gilmore, and anything by Freida McFadden.
  • Podcast: Everyday Wellness with Cynthia Thurlow, The Thyroid Pharmacist with Izabella Wentz, and Crime Junkie.
  • Movie: Project Hail Mary

Favorite comfort food or go-to healthy recipe?

“My favorite comfort food is my dad’s burgers on Saturday nights! My favorite go-to healthy recipe is ‘Fire Station Chicken Salad’.”
