Understanding pellet therapy

Consistent delivery. Thoughtful management.

Hormone pellet therapy is a form of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, often called BHRT. Very small, compressed pellets are placed beneath the skin during a brief in-office procedure, where they gradually release hormones over several months.

Depending on the patient and treatment plan, pellets may deliver hormones such as estradiol or testosterone. Other hormone support, including progesterone when appropriate, may be prescribed separately.

For the right patient, pellets can provide convenient, relatively consistent hormone delivery without a daily pill, cream, patch, or injection. But the pellet itself is only one part of responsible hormone care.

The quality of treatment depends on appropriate patient selection, individualized dosing, ongoing measurement, and clinical judgment.

Could hormones be part of the picture?

When something feels different

Hormonal changes can affect energy, sleep, mood, sexual health, strength, immunity, body composition, and recovery. Explore concerns commonly evaluated in women and men.

Hormone pellet therapy for women

During perimenopause, menopause, and the years to follow, shifts in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can affect sleep, mood, energy, sexual health, and more.

Women are often told to accept these symptoms as part of aging. We listen, evaluate the full picture, and offer personalized treatment—including hormone pellet therapy when appropriate—to help you feel and function your best.

Hot flashes or night sweatsDifficulty sleeping Fatigue or reduced staminaBrain fog Mood or stress-tolerance changesLow libido Vaginal dryness or discomfortBody-composition changes Difficulty maintaining muscleJoint discomfort or aches Skin, hair, or bone-health changesFeeling less like yourself

These concerns can have several causes. A holistic evaluation helps determine whether hormones, thyroid function, nutrients, metabolism, or other factors may be contributing.

The MyHealth1st difference

Our goal is not “more hormones.”

For women, our goal with hormone pellet therapy is to support hormone levels within a healthy range similar to the years before menopause, without restarting monthly menstrual cycles. Dosing is personalized and monitored based on your symptoms, health history, and follow-up lab results. We do not aim for higher-than-normal hormone levels simply to create a temporary boost in energy or sex drive (libido).

The same principle applies to men: support healthy function while considering the person behind the number.

If previous hormone treatment caused unwanted side effects or left you concerned that your dose was too high, we take a careful, measured approach to your care.

01Begin with a meaningful baseline.
02Use conservative, individualized dosing.
03Measure response after treatment.
04Refine care as your body and needs change.

More than a hormone clinic

Hormones are one piece of your health.

Fatigue, sleep problems, weight changes, brain fog, reduced libido, and difficulty maintaining muscle may also be influenced by thyroid function, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic health, inflammation, and other factors.

That is why hormone evaluation at MyHealth1st sits inside a broader lab assessment-based approach.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about hormone pellets

Pellet therapy is unfamiliar to many patients. These answers cover the practical basics before your discovery call.

What are bioidentical hormone pellets?

They are small, compressed implants (the size of a grain of rice) containing hormones with the same chemical structure as hormones made by the human body. They are placed beneath the skin and gradually absorbed by the body, releasing hormones over time.

Are hormone pellets available for women and men?

Yes. Pellet therapy may be considered for appropriately selected women and men. The hormones, dose, treatment schedule, and monitoring process are individualized.

How long do hormone pellets last?

Pellets commonly provide hormone delivery for several months. Women may return approximately every four months and men approximately every five months, although timing varies according to metabolism, response, laboratory findings, and treatment plan.

What is the insertion procedure like?

Pellets are placed beneath the skin through a small incision during a brief in-office procedure using local anesthetic. Your clinical team will provide instructions for caring for the insertion site afterward.

How does MyHealth1st determine my dose?

We consider your symptoms, health history, baseline laboratory results, prior hormone use, body composition, treatment goals, and other relevant health factors. We do not rely on a standardized dosing calculator.

Will you check my levels after treatment?

Yes. Follow-up measurement is central to our approach. We check laboratory response after treatment and use those findings, together with your symptoms and experience, to guide future care.

Can a pellet dose be changed after insertion?

Unlike a cream or oral medication, a pellet dose cannot be changed from day to day after placement. This is one reason we emphasize conservative starting doses, careful patient selection, and follow-up testing. Future rounds can be adjusted based on your response.

Is hormone pellet therapy safe?

All hormone therapies have potential benefits, limitations, side effects, and risks. Pellet therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Your provider will review your history, biomarkers, medications, and relevant risk factors before recommending treatment.

Are visits or pellets covered by insurance?

MyHealth1st is a cash-pay practice. Payment is due at the time of service, and we do not submit insurance claims for clinical visits or procedures. Depending on your plan, you may be able to submit an out-of-network claim for reimbursement. If your insurer requests medical records or a letter of medical necessity for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) or pellet therapy, our team can provide appropriate supporting documentation. Providing documentation does not guarantee coverage or reimbursement. Many laboratory tests are performed through Labcorp, which may bill your insurance directly. Coverage, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, so we recommend confirming your benefits with your insurance carrier.
